I started making jewelry only 3 years ago. I wanted to go the more natural route, so wire wrapping was/is a skill I wanted to learn. I've bought several books on the subject aimed at beginners. For the most part they all failed to explain how to do the more basic skills. Looking at the cover of what is really a nicely presented pamphlet, I was disappointed. That is until I opened it. There is more instruction in these 34 pages than in books 3 and 4 times it's size!!. It tells you about the different tools and what they're used for. It tells you what to look for in stones and beads, so you can pick correctly and not be thoroughly disappointed. Each step is explained with pictures to show what is being talked about. The language is friendly. Do I wish it covered more things? Sure. But it does give a solid base to start from.The 8 1/2" X 11" format is easy to work with - it can be weighed down so you can use both hands and still see the instructions/photos. I highly recommend it. And if anything happens to my copy, I will replace it.
This book is great, especially for beginners. I am not an expert, but there were some things that I skipped over, because I was already familiar with. The very best part of the book, was the way the author taught, answering all the ' whys' and 'hows'. I cannot accept anything at face value, I have to know 'why' it is easier to wrap a slightly irregular stone, than a perfectly shaped one. I learned easier, because of her teaching method..
Part of my lukewarm reception comes from not having read the product details closely enough. I saw the cover, I saw "PhD (Master Jeweler)" and the photos on the front so I had high hopes.The book is actually something like thirty-four pages only. The pictures are in color, true, but I was disappointed by the limited pool of actual projects and techniques represented. The gallery at the back is... okay. Texts accompanying the images make some good points and give some technical advice, but to use it one must figure out the design based on a frontal image only (so the back and maybe even one side is a mystery for the user to solve).There are two styles for wrapping beads presented; there is one project for a free-form stone and one project (with multiple finishing suggestions) for coins/cabs, which are treated as one topic. I have to say, in the book's favor, that each step is accompanied by a color photograph and that each instruction step has an arrow to the appropriate image (although these arrows sometimes cut through the text - it's not too bad).I do not include in this rating my personal belief that less is more when it comes to wire wrapping and finishing ends, in order to showcase the stone - a sentiment that Dr. Root does not seem to share. I think the book is useful... but I also think I paid far too much for it. Lesson learned: read the product descriptions carefully.
I could not believe how small this book is for the price. However the directions are simple and photos look like they will be easy to follow. I am disappointed as I was hoping for something more.
Very clear instruction and good photos for beginner. Useful information. Unfortunately the book's presentation (not the content) is very poor. It is just a colour photocopy of 32 pages and blind them together to sell for over $14. Just looking at the book it is not worth it. But the content is good.
I like the book as it is a very basic book on wirewrapping. It might be a bit expensive for the size but it was what I was looking for. I would recommend it for anyone starting uot on wirewrapping. It shows how to wrap different items, rocks, gems or coins with holes.
Was very disappointed in this book, very thin. Not many pages or information for the cost. I returned it.
It has been a blast! I've been doing a lot to learn how to wrap stones, etc. That is what got me started in this whole jewelry thing all together. It's wonderful to take a step up & forward. Book is perfect & shipping what perfect. Sf-AB+
